Landowners begin to drill

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

BY KEVIN WOODRUFF, Wyoming County Press Examiner 02/13/2008

In the midst of talks about oil and gas wells in the region, there are residents of Susquehanna County who have taken action and signed with oil companies to drill on their property.
Dennis and Victoria LaRue, of Lawton, signed with Turm Oil Incorporated and have leased 679 acres of land at $50 per acre.
The permit for drilling of the land was approved in October of 2007 and Turm has since contracted Epsilon Energy LTD and drilled a well on their Rush Township property.
Dennis LaRue said that the experience has been interesting. I never knew how much went into these things, LaRue said. Sometimes there were 30-40 people working on it at one time.
LaRue added that at the moment the well has neared completion, and expects to see increased activity on the site in the spring. Although there may be activity in the spring, LaRue isnt sure what will happen. Even the drillers that came in arent sure whats going to happen with it, LaRue said. Well just have to see what happens. He noted that the interest from Turm Oil came because the placement of his property is right in the middle of where they wanted to begin exploration.
They told us our land sat in the center of where they wanted to drill, LaRue said. And I think they like to lease bigger pieces of land.

Another local landowner, Rosemarie Greenwood, of Dimock Township, has leased part of her 153 acre property to Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation which is based in Charleston, W. Va. Since having the permit approved on July 31, 2007, well work began in September and by October of 2007 the well was in place.

Another property, in Springville Township, was also drilled. In September of 2006, land belonging to the Teels was drilled by Cabot Oil and Gas.
